To the Girl Always on the Sidelines

Here's looking to you, kid.

I recently read an article regarding the girl who boys will never date. Ironically, it resounded with me for many reasons, both current and former. And by reasons, I mean boys. And actually the article was terrible. So basically, just the headline resounded. Minor details.

I almost always fall for the wrong guy. Wrong having several connotations, including but not limited to, 1) being a fuckboy, 2) having a girlfriend, 3) being friend zoned, etc. Yes, girls can be friend zoned too (I could see the eye rolls all the way from behind my computer screen on the East Coast). The best is when you mix 1, 2, and/or 3 together.

Not that I'm a 10 and not that I'm incredibly funny or charming or wonderful - although I do bake, I like video games, I read, and I'm adventurous - but this seems to happen a lot. I'm always the girl they want to hang with, sleep with, but bring home to mom? Let's pump the brakes, baby, I just thought we were having fun.

Let's also talk about location:

In Missouri, I was too stuck up - the farm life just wasn't doing it for me and I wanted big city.

In Baltimore, I was too homey - I couldn't name a Lilly Print, much less own one. I may as well have thought Kate Spade was a cutesy name for my grandma's garden trowel.

In Tampa, I am the Skipper to the never ending Barbies. If you don't get the reference, my point exactly.

** Let's also note that I use the term boys. Not men. I don't think I've fallen for a man yet. At 25, I have yet to meet a man that makes my cold little heart go pitter patter. Ahhh. Something to look forward.

Edited to update: I'm no longer this self deprecating and learning to love myself but I can't help but laugh at my words so I'm going to go ahead and throw this up there on the blog.

I want to encourage everyone to know their worth. Don't settle, don't play games (unless you want to?), don't be afraid to get out there and do the damn thing. Embrace your quirks, your uniqueness, your flavor. Don't be afraid to be you. Undeniably you.
